The Nikon 85mm f/1.4 AF-S G is simply amazing. It is the first lens I have ever used in over 40 years of photography that is characterized both the scientific aspects (focus and absence of coma, especially at f/1.4 in the corners) and the artistic aspects of the uncertainty, the all to the same period. Any other lens I’ve used is either super-sharp, but makes distracting backgrounds (most of aspherical lenses), or perhaps others can have nice bokeh, but are not always as sharp (as the previous 85mm f/1.4 AF-D, the corners never really spicy).
This is probably why the few other people who already have the new lens also tries to pick himself off the floor with after admission.
This new Nikon 85mm f/1.4 is one of the best lenses have made ever. It’s super-sharp, even at f/1.4. Out-of-focus backgrounds simply melt away in undistracting softness of this lens’ bokeh spectacular on many holes.
This lens’ images quickly draw the attention of anyone who is paying attention. The theme appears in extreme clarity, while the background meltdown in velvety smoothness.

This new 85mm f/1.4 at f/1.4, this means not only that it does this at every panel. It’s super-sharp even at f/1.4 clear out to the corners and backgrounds remain soft and undistracting even for smaller openings. The guys at Nikon deducted really a very subtle and powerful thing about the bokeh of this lens, as I somehow expected, but never to this extent.
The images of this lens are just beautifully done. I want everything usually ultra-sharp, so the lens, but if it backgrounds, they fade away into the smooth softness, not the business of little fuzzy lenses.

For artists, allows us the three-dimensional images with themes that create a result of its origin. For scientists, it allows more focus on faster than any other openings Nikon lens. (The 200mm f/2 VR II is also very sharp, but a stop slower.)
For scientists, this 85-corner coma performance slightly above the 58mm f/1.2 Noct-NIKKOR exotic. Both the Noct 85/1.4 coma and they do not have to keep sharp points of light in the corners wide open, and that is much sharper than the 85/1.4 Noct in the corners and at wide apertures. This new Nikon 85mm f/1.4 improved the earlier versions by Instant back manual focus override, and has far superior optical performance available from Nikon, and also excellent 85mm f/1.4 AI-s and 85/1.4 AF-D.
The old 85/1.4 AF-D will require moving a control ring between automatic and manual focus. Good riddance, since this lens is generally used for portraits and action, such as rock concerts, where instant access to manual focus is a must-have.
Refreshing is that Nikon is not pimped-out of this professional lens. The 85/1.4 has no aspherical elements, no ED glass and no VR, just great performance brilliantly done by traditional look.
